Inspiration

Andrew Sanderson

One of the first photographers that I did research into was Andrew Sanderson. His style of work caught my eye immediately and I wanted to use his work as inspiration but none of our other briefs linked with his style apart from this brief. All of Andrew Sanderson’s photographs are taken using a black and white filter effect which I think changes the meaning of the photographs and gives them more of a story. I especially liked his landscape photography and hope to create something similar in my own work. As the brief is to take photos of our own interpretation of home, I hope to take photo that are significant in my home town which may not seem important to most but are recognisable to locals.

Richard Billingham

Another photographer I researched into was Richard Billingham. This artist was mentioned in a lecture and some of the images shown reminded me of home as they were often action shots with a lot of different things going on within the photo. This reminds me of my home as I have a large family and it is often very busy and fast paced in my house. In his photos, although the models could be posing in a specific way, it looks natural as if they were mid action which I liked. Below are some examples of his work and a picture taken on Christmas day in my house which I would also like to try and recreate.

Helene Binet

This photographer often takes pictures of building and architecture that looks interesting or abstract. I particularly like this artists style of photography as the composition of all of her photos are specifically designed to use the route of the eye technique. This is shown through her photographs as she has positioned the camera to show the edges of the buildings in a certain angle so that the viewer follows along the line. This photographer also commonly uses a black and white filter which, in my opinion is aesthetically pleasing and is something I would like to include into my final images. Below are some examples of Helene Binet’s work.

Charlie Waite

Another photographer I looked into was Charlie Waite. I was inspired by his work because of how minimalistic and natural all his photos look as if it’s a persons point of view. With the examples of his work that I have chosen to show below, I especially liked the composition of the photos and how he uses layers to add more depth to the photo. For example, with the ‘Hay Bales’ image, you can see one in the foreground as the main focus but there are others in the background too which add depth but are not distracting from the main focus. With the other two examples shown below, they are very symmetrical which I also liked and hope to somehow incorporate into my own images.
