Brief 1 – Final Images

baby drinking appropriation finished

This is the final version of my first appropriation image. The meaning behind this image is to show how the people around you can be bad influences on an individual. My main inspiration for this image was Maxx Maxsted and his appropriation work where he alters famous paintings to give them a different meaning. I have purposely chosen the background image of the woman feeding her child to suggest that the woman knows what she is feeding her child but continues to do so anyway. Overall, I was happy with how this image turned out as I think the meaning behind the image is clear to the audience. I like how it is obvious that it is not originally an alcoholic drink as it draws attention to the object as the centre of attention. If I was to create this image again, I would try and make the alcoholic drink blend in more so it looked like more of a natural picture and compare it to this one to see which one I prefer.

Divya Appropriation finished

This is the final version of my second appropriation image. The meaning behind this image is to suggest that you must have certain body/facial features to be seen as perfect in society. My main inspiration for this image was Linder Sterling and her work using the technique of collage. To show this, I have used an asian model. This can also be interpreted by the audience to suggest that you need to be white to be seen as perfect and beautiful in society. I like this image because of the deeper meaning behind what people originally may think. By creating this image, it has let me revisit my prior skills I had on Photoshop and use them to create this image. I have purposely lined up the collage photos with the models face to make it seem as if they are her facial features.
